Lindsay McDonald is a Tucson-based designer and costume artisan who has been creating costumes for theatre for decades as a designer, stitcher, craftsperson, stylist, and educator.
She has worked in costume shops around the country including The Old Globe (San Diego), The Center Theatre Group (Los Angeles), The Los Angeles Opera, and was on the puppet construction team for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
Recently, she designed the costumes for Ms. Holmes and Ms. Watson, Apt 2B (directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge), and was Associate Designer for Intimate Apparel (directed by Oz Scott) at Arizona Theatre Company. Other credits include Legally Blonde at Arizona Repertory Theatre (Broadway World’s “Best Costume Designer for a Musical, Arizona”), Little Shop of Horrors and Matilda with Saguaro City Music Theatre, and Ride the Cyclone with Inner Voice Studios.
Lindsay graduated with an MFA in Costume Design and Production from The University of Arizona where she received The College of Fine Arts’ Creative Achievement Award.
In addition to her costume work, she has also embarked on related projects such as opening and operating a successful non-profit children’s clothing boutique in Middlebury, Vermont which continues to be a community institution, and designing a line of upcycled children’s clothing sold in local shops in Tucson, Arizona.
She has recently discovered a love for backpacking, and enjoys exploring Southern Arizona’s unparalleled trails and quirky off-the-beaten path things that Tucson has to offer--basically spending as much time outside as possible to counteract the effects of sitting in the dark theatre during tech rehearsals!
Lindsay is currently the Resident Assistant Costume Designer at Arizona Theatre Company in Tucson, Arizona.
